Facebook and Instagram: paid subscriptions arrive in November

The use of the Facebook and Instagram applications will change during the month of November. To avoid advertisements, you will have to subscribe to a paid subscription proposed by the Meta group. We explain everything to you in this article.

Soon a paid Facebook subscription?

The era of free, ad-free platforms will soon be a thing of the past. Indeed, the Meta group will soon offer a Facebook and Instagram subscription plan without advertising in the European Union.

“Meta will offer users in the EU (…) the possibility of paying a monthly subscription to use Facebook and Instagram without any advertising,” the group announced in a press release.

According to Meta, this subscription will also be available in Switzerland and the rest of the European Economic Area (Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein). Mark Zuckerberg and the company’s executives have decided to bill this formula at 9.99 euros per month on computer.

For those who use the application, the subscription price will cost 12.99 euros. To the delight of users, one subscription is enough to avoid ads on Facebook and Instagram. In fact, subscription to the paid plan will apply to:

“All Facebook and Instagram accounts linked. »

However, it should be noted that this new does not entitle you to more visibility on both platforms.

A restriction for young users

Users do not have to worry about the consequences of the arrival of this paid plan. She does not change their experience in any way on the platform. Thus, they will still be able to benefit from Facebook and Instagram services for free, but while seeing targeted advertisements.

Furthermore, the Wall Street Journal tells us of Meta’s decision concerning users under 18 years old. According to the American media, the company will restrict advertising on the Facebook and Instagram accounts of young users.

After this age, it will be up to the user to choose whether they want to subscribe to the ad-free plan or not. Please note, not paying for the ad-free subscription means thathe will let Meta use his personal data for advertising purposes.

The changes to the use of Facebook and Instagram should come into effect in November. Meta especially wants meet the requirements of European regulators on targeted advertising. At the same time, the group ensures that it gives its customers a choice over the use of their personal data.

Evolution for professional users

As for professional Facebook users with one or more additional accounts, the subscription price will be different. Initially, the price of the plan will cover all other accounts.

This will apply until March 1, 2024. After this date, business users will need to pay 6 euros for each additional account on the Web. Other accounts affiliated with a mobile subscription will cost 8 euros more per month.

It must be said that this development is a real turning point for Facebook. Previously, Mark Zuckerberg’s company was proud to use its slogan :

“It’s free and it always will be”.

Now, using Facebook and Instagram for free comes at a price: personal data.
